Hot Water Heater Repair and Installation Tips

Hot Water Heater Las Vegas – Repair or Replace?

According to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Efficiency and Renewable Energy’s Energy Saver tips, the hot water heater is the third most consumed use of energy at home. Knowing whether you can repair or you have to replace your water heater is important to save energy.

You can consider the following information if you are deciding on water heater installation and repair. Hot water heater repair has its own pros and cons and the same goes for water heater installation and replacement.

If you find water heater problems, do not rush to replace the water heater. First, check if the heater and problems are covered by warranty. If so, you can have it fixed rather than replaced because it will be less expensive. Water heater repair is also recommended if the cost of the repair is less than 50% of the price of a new water heater.

The disadvantage of repairing an old water heater is the corrosion of pipes that are connected to the water heater. This may result in the water heater leaking and the repair will only be useless. Also, if the water heater model is an old one, it will be difficult to find parts to replace the damaged ones. Another problem is the rust that corrodes older water heater models. These types of issues may lead to more risks like gas leaks and electrical problems.

If the model of your electric water heater is old, it is better to replace it. A new and more efficient gas model can save up to 50% of energy costs. There is also an “on demand water heater” that has recently gained popularity. This is an electric tankless water heater with a longer lifespan that can last up to 20 years compared to a typical water heater which can last from 10 to 13 years.

Although the installation of a tankless water heater is expensive, the heater’s operating cost is much cheaper. Compared to the bulky water heaters that measure around 60 inches by 24 inches, the tankless water heaters are only 20 inches by 28 inches so they naturally take up less space. A tankless water heater installation cost differs depending on the size and type of the heater.

One drawback of replacing your water heater is when the new model consumes more energy than the old one. Installation is also expensive because of the new pipes that must be used. Besides, recent tankless water heaters have more limited capacity to supply hot water compared to older models.
